Our next walks from the Winter Programme:

Saturday 3rd March 2018

Our next walks from the winter programme will be on a half day, finishing at Bowness on Saturday 17th March 2018.
The A walk will be led by Mark Shackleton and starts from the Hawkshead ferry to cross Lake Windermere, price 50p per person.  We take a footpath which leads to a steep climb to Claife Heights for excellent views in all directions.  The walk from here is undulating, with a few more short steep climbs involved.  We descend through beautiful open countryside, passing by several tarns to Far Sawrey before taking the path down to the lake, north of the ferry to walk back along the lake to the ferry. After crossing Lake Windermere we take a good footpath to Bowness.  Total time, including the 2 ferry journeys is approximately 5 hours, depending on waits for the ferry.  About 9 miles with a cumulative ascent of approx 2000 feet.
The B walk will be led by Linda Mountford and starts from a slip road adjacent to the A591, following lanes and paths to cross Crook Road to pick up the Dales Way at New Hall. The next 2½ miles are along lanes, turning west towards Bowness at Hag End with the highest point of the walk at 716ft. We continue along the Dales Way passing through Matson Ground¸ and taking in a view point before descending into Bowness. The walk enjoys lovely views most of the way, and is undulating. 7.7 miles with an accumulative ascent of 1,100 ft.

The C walk will be led by Norma Nicholls and is a linear starting from a lane behind the Church at Ings, gently climbing the lane up to High Fairbanks, then through fields to Borwick Fold and in a westerly direction to Outrun Nook to pick up the Dales Way. There follows gently undulating terrain by passing Windermere golf club, fields and quiet lanes to skirt Brantfell and a steep descent on the road into Bowness.  5 miles.

22nd - 29th September 2017

What a wonderful holiday we had in Menorca - sunshine, sand, sea, sightseeing and walking.  We had a lovely hotel with good (and lots of) food.  Many thanks to John for all the work he has done in arranging another lovely holiday.  Anyone who has taken photos on this holiday, please send them to me so that I can include them in the slide show.  If I get a lot of pics, I may be able to do a separate slide show just on the Menorca holiday if we get enough people to support coming to see it.
